4 Not What I Expected Stars
By Little Spice
It’s a dreary, yucky, rainy weekend perfect for a dark read so Willing Captive sounded like a good fit. I really liked it, but it was not dark. I should have known it wouldn’t be since I’m a fan of BA’s friend zoned series and there is nothing dark about it. Willing Captive had sad moments, but mostly it was funny. It definitely brightened my dark little day.
Lily is kidnapped, or is she? Cut off from her family, she has no idea. Doesn’t know who to trust so she acts accordingly…sort of. I like Lily, but at times she seemed just so very young and immature. She was sheltered and over-protected growing up, so I understood why she was so immature but it still got on my last nerve at times. She grows as the book progresses which is good since she definitely needed to. I mean, she called Nox’s dick a pee-pee, more than once. It made me cringe every time, in fact I cringed as I typed it. Pee-Pee aside, Lily is funny and her inner thoughts had me burst out in a laugh more than once.
I did not like Nox at first. Keeping her cut off from her family for so long made absolutely no sense to me. Why let her believe she was kidnapped for any time at all? It just didn’t compute. Once that little mix up got straightened out, I liked Nox and the book a lot more. He was definitely a broody alpha but I like them like that. It would have been nice to know more about his job and what it really was. Some revalations clued me in that it wasn’t just security, and more of an explanation as to why all the secrecy and false names would have been appreciated.
The main focus of the story is the relationship between Nox and Lily. It’s a slow burn, no insta-love here. It’s all about thoughts, touches, and confused feelings (especially for super sheltered Lily) at first. There are lots of obstacles in the way, and no one knows what will happen after Lily is deemed safe. There is a mystery here – why is there a threat against Lily? It’s not Nox’s job to solve it, his main focus is to keep Lily safe. I think having the mystery solved “off camera” was a mistake. I would have loved to have been along for the ride as it was solved.
I adored Rock and Boo and hope one day to see a book about them. I liked the fact two completely tough people had a working relationship in a high pressure field, yet still figured out how to make things work for them. The fact that Rock was hilarious was icing on the cake.
Although not perfect, I enjoyed the heck out of this book. I wish it was part of a series, or at least that we’ll see more of some of the characters.

Quirky, funny, emotional ride...
By texasreader-stacy
I wish I had read this one before reading Raw, because Nox and Lily make a "cameo" appearance in that story. So I already knew how they turned out. But, even knowing that, I really enjoyed their story. At times, Lily seems too weak, too weepy, far too emotional. But you have to remember that she has been very sheltered, she has not been allowed to experience anything normal teenagers or young adults have. Watching her discover her own personality and her own feelings was like watching someone walk for the first time. You want to warn them, catch them, cheer them on. Nox is a conundrum, he is this Alpha bad boy, living a life that really isn't a life at all. He doesn't "exist" as far as the real world is concerned. He does the jobs that need to be done invisibly. And something about Lily pulls at him and he can't look away. Their story was fun, hot, tragic, and sweet. I don't know how Belle Aurora does it, but somehow her writing style pulls me in emotionally and I have now cried several times in two days from reading this book and Raw. Not many authors can do that, write in a way that has you locked into every detail. Walking along with each character and feeling their emotions like you were there with them. Sappy I know. Belle Aurora is moving up to be one of my favorite new authors to watch.

Fated for each other..
By Tbascoebuzz
Not all stories are for all people....I mean after all, we are all so individually unique with our own tastes, right? First let me say I love this Author...I absolutely LOVED reading "Friend Zoned" and it's sequel. The plot and writing in those stories were both original, fun and captivating. The reader is invested and attached to the characters in very little time. That didn't happen in this story. At least, not for me.
I hate giving negative or even mediocre reviews. But this story just cannot compel me to write anything very positive :(
Lily Flynn is a 22 yr. old loner who enjoys her seclusion. She still lives at home with her parents and older sister, and spends 95% of her time reading in her spacious library of a bedroom of her family's huge sixteen bedroom mansion. She hasn't had real friends in a very long time and doesn't trust easily...so friendships are hard for her to establish (if she even cared to try). But I thought her character refreshing and real. She has many vulnerabilities...but she's also a very strong young woman.
Then Lily is kidnapped right from her own home, and she soon discovers her kidnappers are her protectors. There has been a murder attempt on her life and she's taken to a safe-house by "Nox"...one of a team of mercenaries. She's held at a safe-house until the threat to her life is over.
Nox and his team of mercenaries hire themselves out for various jobs. Nox is tough, hardened and extremely aggressive. He's stoic, remote and cold. And little by little, without meaning to.. Lily begins to break down his wall's that he's erected....no real surprise there.
This story is not a complex plot and is really nothing new or original in its concept. It's very simply....simple. There are no twists or turns or surprises. It's completely predictable. Basically the entire story takes place at the safe-house. Two people who don't care for each other much (at first) are stuck together in one place, unable to leave. The rest you can pretty much figure out for yourself.
The story is told in first person from each main characters' POV....mostly from Lily. (it would've been refreshing to hear more from Nox). I adored Nox's Dominant Alpha bad boy Male self. Absolutely delicious and I thought Lily to be the perfect "other half" for him. Only someone as innocent and sweet as her could bring him to his knees. The dialogue between all the characters is sweet with enough humor to keep the predictable plot somewhat interesting.
Let it be known that I love this authors' previous books. I just feel this story was not par for the course. A far, far cry from Friend-Zoned
