Nice Collection

This Princess Story Collection is a nice way to add to your collection of Step into Reading books in an inexpensive way. I reqested this book from my local library to see what books were included. I am now here to purchase it for my daughter. It is a nice collection of 5 of the Step into Reading Early Readers. You get five Disney Princess books for the retail price of two if purchased individually.

The books included are:
"Cinderella's Countdown To The Ball" Step 1,
"Friends For A Princess" (Snow White) Step 1,
"A Pony For A Princess" (Belle) Step 2,
"Surprise For A Princess" (Sleeping Beauty or Briar Rose in this book) Step 2,
and finally "A Pet For A Princess" (Jasmine) Step 2.

I just wish Ariel was included in this collection as she is my daughter's favorite but she still loves the other princesses as well. She is only 4 and can't yet read them on her own but they are subjects that interest her. These books have one to two sentences per page and after I read a page I have her point out to me one of the words I read and have her either tell me what it starts with or how to spell it. She enjoys this.

My first grade son also enjoys the Step Into Reading books as well and they help encourage him to read.

The Step Into Reading books have lots of books on the latest movies my kids enjoy so it is fun for them to "read" about subjects that already interest them.

There is a Disney/Pixar Step Into Reading Story Collection to be released in August 2008. I hope they make more of these collections. I hope this information has been helpful.

It all depends on your child's reading level

My daughter is 5 years old and just starting kindergarten. She is a beginning reader, able to read all the Dick and Jane books and many Dr. Seuss books.

I bought this book because my daughter wanted it. She's into Disney princesses. This book is a collection of Disney princess stories for level 1 and level 2 readers. My daughter is a level 1 reader. In the level 1 stories of this book, the sentences are nice and short, the font is large, and there is usually only one sentence per page. It appears designed for children to read to themselves. However, the vocabulary is too difficult. Many of the words are not beginning reader sight words and are also not easy to sound out. She had trouble reading it and decided she did not like the book.

Now, I could read the level 1 stories to my daughter, which I have. They are not an adult-read-to-child friendly stories. Sentences tend to be choppy, stories are lacking and any rhyming is awkward at best.

The level 2 stories are more interesting. An adult may enjoy reading them to a child or a child of that level may easily read them herself. The sentences flow more smoothly and the vocabulary is more appropriate.

This book is best suited for first grade level students. Level 1 students will find this book too difficult to read.

About the Author
Michael Harris has taught in Spain, Bolivia and Colombia. From 1982 to 1992 he taught at the British Institute for Young Learners in Madrid, where he was responsible for setting up the Junior Department (11-14 year olds). From 1992 to 1996 he also taught English at the University of Alcala de Henares. At the moment he is involved in teacher training in Spain and other parts of the world. Michael is the co-author of World Class (Longman, 1994), Worldcup (Longman, 2000) and the new five-level secondary course Opportunities (Longman, 2002 Website: www.longman.com/opportunities). He has also published articles and methodology books on the following topics: Syllabus design; self-assessment: continuos assessment and testing: learner development: oral skills: culture and language learning. Anna Sikorzynska has worked as a teacher and teacher trainer in Poland for fifteen years in various contexts: state schools, private language schools, universities, pre-service and in service teacher training. She also writes and reviews exam materials for the national exam board. She's worked at Warsaw University, English Teacher Training College since 1991, teaching English grammar and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language. Her main professional interest is teaching grammar. She has written and co-written various books, including exam preparation materials, methodology resource books for teachers and the five-level course for upper-secondary students 'Opportunities' (with Michael Harris and David Mower). David Mower has many years' experience as an English teacher in locations as diverse as Manchester and Casablanca. For several years he taught Spanish teenagers at the British Council for Young Learners, before moving to Kensington School in Madrid where he taught 11-17 year olds. This is such a fantastic book I hate to write anything and ruin it for the reader. So all I am going to say is take Danill Zverev a ruthless man set in his way, people follow his rules and he answers to no one. Ballet teacher Libby Tennent is the complete opposite and when they meet its the like the sun coming out on a rainy day, such a lovely book. There is such depth to the story and both have their own deep secrets and pain but what a journey you have and the chemistry between them is amazing. A stand alone book but part of a quartet and I can hardly wait for the rest. Absolutely loved it not pass this one up.

I loved this book. This is the 1st of a 4 part series and I was not disappointed. The hero was emotionally inept, he had suffered from the time he was put in the orphanage in Russia with only his twin as family. Four boys that bonded because they were orphaned. Daniil, his brother, Roman, the nerd, Sev and Nickolai. They were there for each other. Circumstances

I really enjoyed this book. The spark of something wonderful was instant between Daniil Zverev, and Libby Tennent. Libby challenged Daniil every step of the way.

Daniil never got close to people. He had been in an orphanage until he was 12. There was 4 boys that bonded together. It was Daniil, and his twin brother Roman, and Nikolai, and Sevastyan. Daniil was adopted, and he lost contact with the other boys. Not by his choice. His letters never got mailed, and he never received mail after he was adopted. His own adopted family didn't understand Daniil, and I don't think they tried. He felt like he was damaged goods.

The first time he met Libby, he knew there was something special about her. He told her he did NOT do commitments. Each time they parted, he intended it to be forever, yet, he couldn't stay away from Libby. I loved the way Libby fought for what she wanted, and taught Daniil what it meant to be in a relationship.

Sample from chapter 11 - "I want flowers, I want conversation, I want phone calls and texts, and presents..." He went to open his mouth but she got there first. "And before you accuse me of demanding expensive gifts, that's not what I mean. I'm tired of living on a knife edge. It's not all about whether you want to see me again, Daniil. It's about whether or not I want to see you, too, and if you can't be bothered to pick up your phone and ask about my day then I don't want you a part of it anymore."

I won't spoil the story for you, but it is a refreshing, wonderful book.

No Complicated Maths Here

I highly recommend this material. It helped me found my footing early in my career as a process engineer! I have invested quite a bit in Norman Lieberman material and they are full of anecdote (owing to extensive years he has spent in the industry) that you can relate with as a process engineer. Even though I like complicated math, I found the simplicity of the mathematics in the materials helps to focus on logic of the problem solving process rather than just crunching equations.

Philosophy Quite Clear

For those familiar with the elusive jargon of most philosophy manuals, this masterful text will come as a pleasant and shocking surprise. It highlights complex thoughts without lapsing into confusing or vague terminology. It also ventures beyond the philosophical triumvirate of Plato, Socrates and Aristotle by introducing the reader to other philosophers frequently over-looked in traditional Phil. texts. Chalked full of modern examples and written in a concise and critical manner, Archetypes of Wisdom is a great introductory host to one of the oldest disciplines in the humanities.
An added bonus in this text is the slight, but still present, sarcastic humour of Doug Soccio. I have been fortunate enough to have had Professor Soccio as an instructor and his unique blend of humour and intelligence transfer to the pages in this book. I highly recommend it to anyone with the phil of soph.

High School Philosophy

I am a high-school teacher at a magnet school in northwest Louisiana, and we have used Archetypes of Wisdom in a philosophy class of gifted and talented students for the past five years. The book and the class are so popular that we now offer four sections instead of the original two. Our students love the class so much, we wonder why more high schools do not offer a course in philosophy. Many of the former students add philosophy as a minor when they declare their interests in college. The tests online and the cd-rom are useful items.

Avoid school daze with excited kangaroo school ways!

In this delightful little book a young child has the opportunity to learn what to expect on the first day of school. The book encourages question asking and answering, encourages activities that can be done during the reading and allows a child to glean useful tidbits about preparing for school and what might happen once there.

Manners discussed include crossing the street, riding on the bus and listening to the teacher. Other discussions include how to find the class and desk, what might be learned, how some things might be easy while others might take more time, recess and playtime, lunch, bathroom breaks and more!

BEAUTIFULLY illustrated with an appealing and expressive kangaroo. I would say this is a must for any young child getting ready for their first school experience.

The perfect book for children starting school.

Author, Sonia Levitin, & illustrator, Jeff Seaver, have collaborated again on this second book in what I hope will be an ongoing etiquette series for young children. When Kangaroo Goes To School is a delightful story of a kangaroo's preparations and expectations for his first day at school..."do you know the rules?", "What about show and tell?", "Where will we eat?" and so on. Kangaroo will steal your heart and share the rules of "school etiquette" with your children.
